AWARDS CLEAN-UP
He's really serious about cleaning and doesn't shy away from hard work but when Darren Livesey of the award-winning Beach House, Blackpool, enrolled himself and his staff on Blackburn College's NVQ Level 2 Cleaning and Support Services course, he wasn't sure what to expect.
"I had no idea there was a trainging course for cleaners, but I'm very pleased I looked into it, as The Beach House has benefited in so many ways from this experience" said Darren, who with his team was awarded his NVQ this summer.
Not only can I now boast a team of cleaners who have nationally recognised certificates, but this on-the job training has increased their confidence and motivation, as well as standards of health and safety. New systems have been developed and we're now saving around £100 a month on products that were either ineffectual or surplus to requirements, whilst still providing our customers with the very highest levels of cleanliness and customer service."
Darren and Estelle Livesey are passionate about their business and maintaining the highest possible standards but really wanted to know more aboue the business of 'cleaning'.
A year after starting the course the whole team achieved their NVQ Level 2 Cleaning and Support Services and Darren and Estelle have also picked up two business awards from the college: An employer responsiveness Cross College Award 09/10 Most Supportive Employer; 09/10 Newcomer of the Year Award from the department of Care, Health, Public Services and Childhood Studies.
Tim Dixon, LBTB's Business Development Manager for Blackpool, who has worked with Darren and Estelle over a number of years said "Congratulations to The Beach House for taking this initiative. Darren and Estelle led the way in 5 star-self-catering in Blackpool and last year won silver in the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence. It just goes to show that no matter how successful a business may be, everyday standards should not be taken for granted and there are always opportunities to further improve service and customer satisfaction."
Carol Taylor, Lecturer at Blackburn College on presenting the certificates said "The Beach House has been pro-active in providing their staff with personal development opportunities and offered the staff full support throughout their training programme. Darren and Estelle have worked in partnership with Blackburn College over the last twelve months to ensure all training has been flexible in meeting both the business and the learner needs."

"The staff, in turn, have been very positive and committed throughout the sessions, demonstrating a professional and flexible approach. All of these factors have contributed to the successful delivery of the training program for The Beach House."
